Wolvey

Snipe Tern

It was only a short drive to Wolvey from our morning venue, Copston Magna

Here the club have a further two waters, Snipe and Tern as well as a small clubhouse.  We were soon fishing again whilst Richard set about preparing the BBQ.

I decided to fish Snipe, and started at the clubhouse end of the water in what looked like a nice little bay (see picture opposite).

I decided to stick with my Damsel nymph and intermediate line but had no success.

Members were soon drawn from their fishing by the lure of food.  As it happened the rain that had been threatening all day chose this time to descend upon us.  Thankfully we were able to retire to the ¬ëclubhouse¬í whilst consuming our food and drink.  I soon learnt that our members have hearty appetites and it did not take us too long to consume the generous portions that Richard had prepared - burgers, sausages, pork, chicken, rolls, salad, beer ¬ñ where did it all go?

As the food quickly disappeared so did the rain, so we were soon back to the business of catching fish.

I returned to the small bay (and similar techniques) that I was fishing before lunch.  After a while with no offers I decided to move, trying different points along the length of the water (although not long after I moved a fish was caught on a Diawl Bach close to where I had initially started).

I finally ended up at the far corner of the water from the clubhouse where my luck changed.  I managed to catch a further two fish on the damsel nymph, again both safely returned.

Another quiet spell followed, which signalled the need for a break for coffee and another move.

Other members were also catching fish, mainly on nymphs in combination with intermediate lines. I never took the opportunity to fish 'Tern' (see opposite) but it fished equally well for those that did.

I walked round to the opposite bank (the water is not that big so this was not a taxing as it sounds) but decided to stick with the damsel nymph and intermediate line.

Despite enjoying my day's fishing it soon came to that point in time when it is advisable to call it a day and return home to spend at least some time with one¬ís family before the weekend is over.

As is usual on my part when finishing there is always one 'last cast' and, yes you¬íve guessed it, another fish decided to attach itself to my hook on the retrieve.

With luck like that you really do have to quit whilst ahead.
